ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (www.eratosthenes.org.cy) of Cyprus University of Technology (www.cut.ac.cy) invites applications for one (1) position at the Web Developer level at the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. The positions are open either on a full-time (100%) or part-time employment basis. The successful candidates will design, create, maintain and update websites and web applications for multiple ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence projects funded by the European Union and Cyprus, including the flagship Excelsior H2020 Teaming project (https://excelsior2020.eu/).
ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in earth observation, space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has a 13-year experience in earth observations and geospatial analysis. Through the “EXCELSIOR” H2020 Teaming Project (https://excelsior2020.eu/), ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information by offering knowledge, responsible research, open innovation and application services capable of sustaining Cyprus’ development. ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to actively contribute to the European Research Area (ERA) priorities in Atmosphere and Climate, Resilient Societies and Big Earth Data Analytics, as well as to become the reference Earth Observation/Geoinformation Centre for research and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region.
A core activity of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is to conduct high caliber, state-of-the-art research, both basic and applied. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities to the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated.
Appropriate measures of success will be collaboratively determined based on the Centre’s strategic growth plan and sustainability targets. These will be revised periodically by the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.
Description of the Position
The position concerns Web Developer for day-to-day operations of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, creating, maintaining, and regularly updating websites and web applications of the Centre, ensuring optimal performance, user experience, and technical functionality as well as that all content remains accurate, consistent, and up to date.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Write efficient, robust code for web applications using languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript etc.).
- Work with UI/UX designers to translate design wireframes into functional, interactive websites.
- Monitor website performance, fix bugs, and implement updates to improve functionality and security.
- Connect front-end interfaces with server-side logic and API endpoints developed by back-end developers.
- Maintain and systematically update the websites of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, including the Regional Exploitation Platform, the Networking Platform, and the Knowledge Hub, as well as the website of the H2020 EXCELSIOR Teaming Project and any other projects undertaken by the Centre, ensuring that all content remains accurate, consistent, and up to date.
- Design, create, maintain, and regularly update website content for future projects of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, ensuring alignment with the external funders’ requirements and communication objectives.
- Maintain and continuously update the EXCELSIOR project repository within the KTISIS institutional repository of the Cyprus University of Technology, ensuring that all materials are accurate, complete, properly documented, and accessible.
- Assisting in the establishment of local, regional, and international research networks that can support the long-term research agenda and priorities of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence.
- Working towards fulfilling ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence mission goals.
- Ensuring that the KPIs and other performance targets as set by the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence are met.
- Undertaking any other relevant duties deemed necessary.
Requirements (must have):
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or other relevant field.
- Previous experience of minimum 1 year.
- Proficiency in HTML CSS, JavaScript, or any relevant client-side languages.
- Practical experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React.
- Solid understanding of responsive web design and cross-browser compatibility.
- Knowledge of web development principles, standards, and best practices.
- Understanding of website security principles and performance optimization techniques.
- Very good knowledge of English and Greek, both written and oral.
Desired Qualifications (will be considered an advantage):
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or other relevant field, will be considered an advantage.
- Experience with server-side development using Node.js.
- Experience integrating front-end interfaces with back-end systems and APIs.

The appointment will be for a period of one year (12 months) with the prospect of renewal for another one year. The annual gross salary for the (full-time) position will be in the range of salary scales Α8-Α9 (€24500 - €42149), depending on qualifications and experience. It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary which is proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration.
